It is a pleasure
to invite you to join us in Hamilton this April for a full academic and
clinical NZSSD programme. As usual the NZSSD programme will run from
Wednesday late morning until Friday lunchtime (21-23 April), and the Nursing
and Dietetic groups will hold all-day meetings on the Tuesday (20 April).
New for this year are, a Podiatry Special Interest Group and an all-day
Registrar Training Session. There will also be plenty of time to ‘network’
and meet old friends and an active social programme, so please mark your
diary now, apply for leave and register early for the best deal.
We are grateful to our visiting speakers for their contributions and look
forward to seeing many abstracts, scientific and clinical, submitted for the
meeting. Please pass this invitation on to other colleagues who may not yet
be members.

NZZD CONFERENCE 2010 KEYNOTE SPEAKERS
Professor Timothy Davis
BMedSc MB BS W.Aust., DPhil Oxon., FRACP, MRCP (U.K.)
Timothy Davis is a general physician, tropical medicine specialist and
diabetologist at Fremantle Hospital, and Professor of Medicine, University
of Western Australia. He has had research interests in diabetes and in
tropical medicine, and is still active in both areas. He was principal
investigator of the Fremantle Diabetes Study and an associate investigator
on the UKPDS, as well as being heavily involved in the FIELD and ADVANCE
studies among many others.

DIABETES NURSE SPECIALIST STUDY DAY KEYNOTE SPEAKERS
Wendy A. Davis M.A. (Oxon), M.Sc. (Imperial College,
University of London), M.P.H. (Distinction) (UWA), Ph.D. (UWA)
Dr Wendy Davis was awarded her Ph.D. on the cost of type 2 diabetes in 2004.
Her major research interests include epidemiology, biostatistics, health
economics, data linkage, diabetes, dementia, and randomized controlled
trials (malaria, stroke). She is an active member of the EASD and the
Australian Diabetes Society (ADS), and an inaugural member of the SMBG
International Working Group which was instrumental in developing the IDF
Guidelines for SMBG in type 2 diabetes.
Mark Leydon MSc NZRD
Mark has worked as a Dietitian for the Waikato Regional Diabetes Service for
the last 10 years. He has a keen interest in working with individuals who
have Type 1 diabetes, exercise and who wish to optimise their blood glucose
control to improve their sporting performance. Mark himself dabbles in a
variety of sports such as: road cycling, tennis, and tai chi.
Dr Gerry Devlin
Dr Gerry Devlin has been a cardiologist at Waikato hospital for 13 years and
is the Clinical director of Cardiology/heart and lung services. Dr Devlin
and his team at Waikato hospital pioneered the Transcatheter Aortic Valve
Implantation (TAVI) procedure pilot programme in 2008

Those delegates not wishing to pay by credit card

unpaid delegates will have their registrations cancelled and will be
refused entry.
The 2010 Conference has significant penalties for
late registrations we recommend you register immediately and request a tax
invoice be sent especially if you have not finalised your funding. If your
funding is declined your registration can be cancelled without penalty -
as long as you cancel within the timeframe as per the registration site
details.
